There are two nature trails, a short trail, meant for children, and a longer trail that combines nature spots with the history of the village of Mäntyjärvi.
Shooting the rapids of the Vaikko river is an activity for spring, when the snow is melting and the river is wild. A trip is normally three hours with a break for coffee. We can arrange rapid shooting trips and canoe hire for you.
Winter is the time for skiing and ice fishing. A 6 km long track is maintained around the lake. Two downhill skiing centers are nearby (35 and 55 km)
Empty roads and beautiful nature make a cycling trip very enjoyable. A few bikes are available for our guests
Fishing is possible in the many lakes in the surrounding and in the rapids of the nearby Vaikko river. The rapids are stocked with trout to provide sport for the fishermen. A fishing permit for the Vaikkojoki river can be obtained from the local tourist enterprises. We can obtain fishing permits for our guests.
The Telkkämäki museum farm is the oldest remaining farm in Finland where the slash and burn culture is still practiced. Interior and exterior of the farmhouses still remain in the original style. In summertime guided tours are available.
Outokumpu is an old mining town. It has a mining and geological museum and a small activity park. Koli, on the shores of lake Pielinen, is one of the most beautiful nature areas in Finland. A trip is easily combined with a visit to the geological museum nearby.

In Heinävesi are the two orthodox monasteries of Finland located, Valamo and Lintula. Both worth a visit.
